Sencha translates to "cooked tea": Sen = cooked, Cha = tea.

The leaves of Sencha overlap lengthwise as they dry on a warm surface, then they are heated in vessels heated with wood to halt the fermentation process. Sencha's long, well-developed, grassy green leaves are immediately recognizable.

After steeping in hot water, the full leaf structure becomes visible, and the solution has a light yellow color.
